On Monday, a Gandhinagar court found godman Asaram Bapu guilty of raping a female devotee many times in a case that had been pending for ten years.
the Asaram was found guilty by Judge DK Soni in 2013 of repeatedly raping a female disciple at his Surat Ashram.
The FIR claims that from 2001 to 2006, the survivor was repeatedly assaulted while being imprisoned by Asaram in his Asharam outside of Surat.
On Tuesday morning, the judge is anticipated to impose Asaram’s punishment.
Asaram was found guilty of violating the Indian Penal Code’s Sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex), 354 (outraging a woman’s modesty), 346 (wrongful detention), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 201 (destroying evidence) (IPC).
The survivor was allegedly imprisoned by Asaram in his Asharam on the outskirts of Surat city and was frequently raped from 2001 to 2006, according to the First Information Report (FIR) filed at Chandkheda police station in Ahmedabad.
Asaram has been found guilty in other cases before. Along with other shorter sentences, he is already serving a life sentence for two different sexual offenses.
He was brought from Indore, where he was detained in 2013, to a jail in Jodhpur in 2018, where he is currently being held.
