Recently, the Bench of Justice Anuja Prabhudessai of the High Court of Bombay took strong exception against a lawyer Anjali Patil who accused the judge of bias and threatened to lodge a complaint against her before the Chief Justice.
The Advocate Anjali Patil accused the judge of bias and partiality in open court, the circumstances arise when the advocate sought urgent circulation of a bail plea and the Bench questioned the urgency of mentioning the case without turn.
Accordingly, the court remarked that “such scurrilous aspersions not only undermine the public confidence in the judiciary but also interferes is the administration of justice”, In its order.
The Judge further said that it’s the lawyer’s duty to uphold the decorum and dignity of the court and she knows a lawyer’s frustration when matters get adjourned and the lawyer has to face the client.
The court adjourned the case to April 22 and it noted that the lawyer acted in an unprofessional manner and her conduct was unbecoming of a lawyer.
