Six judicial officials have been approved for appointment as extra judges on the Bombay High Court by the Central Government.
The Union Law Ministry’s Department of Justice published a notice to this effect on Thursday.
The judicial officers that have been appointed are as follows:
- Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh
- Yanshivraj Gopichand Khobragade
- Mahendra Wadhumal Chandwani
- Abhay Sopanrao Waghwase
- Ravindra Madhusudan Joshi; and
- Vrushali @ Shubhangi Vijay Joshi
At the moment, Chandwani serves as the Bombay High Court’s Registrar General. The six people’s names had been suggested by the Supreme Court Collegium at a meeting on September 7. Additionally, the Collegium had suggested two advocates for promotion; however, those names have not yet been cleared.
The Bombay High Court currently has 43 regular judges and 18 temporary judges. The Central government has now approved the six names, bringing the total number of justices on the Bombay High Court to 67. The High Court is authorized to have 94 judges.
