The appointment of Justice N Kotiswar Singh as the Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has been given the green light by the Central Government.
This appointment was proposed by the Supreme Court Collegium on December 13, 2022. Justice Singh, who is currently serving as a judge in the Gauhati High Court, has held the position of acting Chief Justice in both the Gauhati and Manipur High Courts.
He was born in Imphal, Manipur in 1963 to (Late) Justice N Ibotombi Singh, the first Advocate General of Manipur, and N Gomati Devi. Before joining the Gauhati High Court, where he was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2008, Justice Singh had a brief stint practicing law before the Supreme Court of India.
He was appointed as an additional judge of the Gauhati High Court in 2011, became a permanent judge in 2012, and served as a judge in the newly established Manipur High Court in 2013 before being transferred to the Gauhati High Court in 2018.
